OVERVIEW
This continues to be a time of significant change for the EC competition law regime within which the maritime industry must operate. We have lined up an equally dynamic cast of speakers and range of interesting topics for our Thirteenth Annual Conference. The Conference will explore, in particular, how the industry must operate in the future in order to maintain compliance with the new EC competition law regime. The Commission's draft Guidelines for maritime transport will provide a main focus for debate on the practical implications for the industry and a discussion of the issues which the industry would like the Commission to develop in its preparation of the final Guidelines. The Commission's review of the Consortium Block Exemption Regulation will provide a further important topic for discussion.

CLOSING REMARKS |
THE EUROPEAN MARITIME LAW ORGANISATION – EMLO - was established in 1991 to provide a neutral forum for debate and research on legal issues in the maritime industry. The membership is drawn from shipping law firms and lawyers and other professionals practising in the EC maritime field as well as industry representatives with particular responsibilities and interests in maritime regulatory affairs and officials from national governments and regulatory bodies (including the European Commission and the European Maritime Safety Agency), and finally academics who specialise in shipping, trade and maritime law. Because of the impact of EU maritime affairs internationally, EMLO draws its membership from EC/EEA Member States and other countries worldwide, including the USA and Asia.
